Ava Meets the Easter Bunny

Monday night, Bradley and I took Ava to meet the Easter Bunny. When we first got to the mall, we sat on a bench beside the area where the bunny is located. He kept waving at Ava and she was very unsure. Since Santa was definitely not a big hit, I just knew we were in for it. But to our surprise, Ava thought the bunny was hilarious! She started laughing and laughing which made Bradley, the photographer, and myself laugh. It was hilarious! When she was done with pictures she didn't even want to leave the Easter Bunny. She was so cute though!

My Pre-Easter Dinner

Last night we had dinner at our house. I had mentioned earlier that we had purchased some meat from the high school to benefit Project Graduation. I wish the meat would have been ready next weekend for Easter, but since it wasn't, I decided to have a Pre-Easter Dinner. We ordered a Boston Butt Roast and a pound of BBQ Bologna. Both were cooked by Jimmy Dean and they make excellent food!

So, to go with our meat I made Deviled Eggs, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Oriental Coleslaw, and purchased Macaroni Salad and Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. What can I say, it was an excellent meal. Joe and Anne were in charge of the dessert and brought a wonderful Chocolate Cake and Pound Cake with strawberries. Yummy in my Tummy! (And Uncle Timmy, I finally used those napkins you gave us!) Great meal, great time. Here are the pics!

Ava's First Egg Hunt

Even though the weather was not great, we decided to go ahead and take Ava to the Newbern Easter Egg Hunt. Although for all ages, I wouldn't call it a hunt, but rather an Easter Egg Pick Up. When we arrived at the park, it was very windy, there was basically no parking anywhere and Ava was just in a mood. We weren't sure where to go, but by the recreation center at the park, you could see just tons of eggs laying all over the ground and I assumed that was where the 0-2 years would be hunting. Upon closer inspection we discovered this was the hunt for the 8 - 10 year olds. Not much of a hunt, but rather a race to see who could pick up the most eggs that were just laying on the ground out in the open. Maybe it was lack of hiding spots, maybe it's because they didn't want any surprise eggs left over for a few months, but whatever the reason, I would hardly call it a challenge.

We finally found the area for the 0 - 2 year olds and got in place. Of course there are tons of kids everywhere and lots of eggs just laying on the ground. I knew we were in for it when Ava gets out of her stroller and looks like this while hanging onto Bradley.

So it finally comes time for the hunt and the Easter Bunny comes over to get things started off. The lady with him has a megaphone, that she has no clue how to work because she is talking into it and no sound is coming out. We all know that the Easter Bunny doesn't talk, he may be 6 feet tall, but for goodness sake, he can't talk. He's a rabbit and rabbits don't talk. So this lady is talking into her megaphone and all of a sudden the parents take off and the lady is saying, "Stop, stop we haven't started yet!" But since they are off, they just keep going. Anyways, luckily where we were there were a couple of eggs because Ava was having none of this. My goal for her was 5 eggs, we left with 2. Bradley sat her down in the grass beside the eggs and she would barely touch them. She just started crying and by the time we got our 2 eggs, the rest were gone and most kids had like 20 eggs in their basket! Bradley said he wasn't going to be a trashy parent out there taking all the eggs, he wanted Ava to get them on her own. However, Ava just wanted to held, she hated the grass, she hated the wind, and she was ready to go home. Our two eggs were not part of the prize-winning category, but she at least got 2 eggs.

Ava's First Bubble Bath

Last night while Bradley was lowering Ava's crib, Ava and I took a bubble bath. I only put a little bit of bubbles in, but boy did that little squirt produce a ton of bubbles! Ava had fun splashing around and playing and loved the bubbles! As you can see in one of the pictures, she went face down into some of them.

Here are some Ava changes from this week:

  • We had to lower Ava's bed because she is trying to pull up on the rails and I had awful visions of her flipping herself over the side of the bed.

  • She has now had her first relaxing bubble bath.

  • Every once in a while during her crawling she will pop onto her butt in a sitting position. It usually doesn't last long, but she is doing it on her own.

  • She has started to enjoy some fruit and not just go mush mouth on us when we feed it to her.

  • She has started wearing size 12 month and some 18 month clothes.

We have a busy weekend planned. Tomorrow if the weather is nice, Ava is going to an Easter egg hunt. I am looking forward to it! We have been practicing and I think Ava is ready! We are also having company (Nana and Pop) for dinner tomorrow night since we bought some meat to support Project Graduation. So we will be eating good. At some point we need to squeeze in an Easter Bunny visit. Man, we'll need a weekend just to rest up from this weekend! Have a great one everyone!

Ava's First Flower and Passed out in a Stroller

I picked a tulip the other day and let Ava smell it (she smelled it right before she tore it in pieces). You can tell by the look on her face that it wasn't very fragrant.

The other pictures are of Ava after finishing a walk with her Nana the other afternoon. You can tell the fresh air just really relaxes her.

And here's a pretty picture of the moon from between the trees in our backyard. I thought it was neat looking.

A surprise visit

This past Sunday, we got a phone call from Pop saying that Bradley's aunt and uncle wanted to come see Ava. After a mad dash of trying to get stuff a little more presentable, they showed up to visit with Ava for a few minutes. They keep up with Ava's happenings here on the blog, but hadn't seen her since Christmas so she had changed a lot. Of course everyone was getting a kick out of her crawling and chasing after Pop's watch. What can I say, my baby already is attracted to gold, diamonds, and jewelry in general!

New Pictures

Sorry it has taken me a while to update the blog. I started back to work this week and it has been so stressful. I can't wait for this semester to be over! Only 45 days left (I even have the number posted on my board to count down!). Ava has been keeping us super busy. Gone are the days of her playing on her little pallet and being content. The days are now chasing Ava's crawling little booty (usually into the dog bed or aquarium) and trying to keep her from damaging household items or herself. Here are some pics from the last few days.
