Newbern Elementary Open House

This year Ava's school is spending their first year in a new building! For the past year and a half, the school has been tearing down and building on in preparation for the new school building. Last year the school focused on the anticipation of building and all summer Ava talked about being on the "Green Hall."

When school started we located the green hall and Ava's teacher right away. We are now 7 weeks into the school year and we are having a GREAT year! Ava is excelling in her work and making fantastic grades. She is reading so well and even though she doesn't like math, she is doing well there also! Her teacher, Mrs. Renae has just been fabulous and we hope that her year continues to be so great! :)

Nana and Pop joined us for the Open House and Ava gave us a little tour of her school. The first stop of course was the library! This girl loves it and she loves to read! I hope that spark continues. Then we went on to her class where we were able to pick out her apple (I could have picked it out of anywhere since it was COVERED with writing!). Harrison just made himself at home and looked like he was ready for school himself!

It was a great afternoon and we are so blessed to be part of the Newbern Elementary family!

First Lost Tooth

Pictures of my baby girl after losing her first tooth. :( Growing up so quickly!

Ava had stayed the night at Nana and Pop's the night she lost her tooth, but the tooth fairy found her and left her a $5 bill covered in Pixie Dust. Nana and Pop reported that she was SOOOO excited! :)

 

 

My Little Choctaw

It's that time of year again! Cheer season! This year the Little Choctaws are cheering not only basketball, but football as well. Last Friday night was the first game and Ava did a great job!


Right before she went out to cheer one of the teachers came into the stands with Ava and I thought to myself, "Is she sick?" She had this look on her face. In Mrs. Wendy's hand was a tooth and she said, "Ava just lost a tooth!" I wiped the blood out of her mouth and then Ava was all smiles and so ready to cheer. It was hilarious. I loved the excitement and the fact that during the cheers I could see her feeling her new tooth hole. So funny! She was so excited and it made the first night of cheer so much more memorable. Well that and the fact that Bradley locked us out of the van and we had to call a locksmith! :)

Ava will be cheering her first football game of the season this Friday night. They have new uniforms this year and she is soooo excited!

Lately...

Lately this is what has been happening around here.

I have dumped the fall scents into my tart warmer. Come on fall weather!

Harrison has decided to wear his Daddy's underwear and he says it fits. ;)

Bradley made a mess of my car, but he cleaned it off.

I have gotten cuddles with my little man.

Sometimes the package is almost as fun as the gift.

Ava's Sixth Birthday Slideshow

I completely forgot to post Ava's 6th birthday slideshow. :) I threw this together in under an hour so it is not up to par with the usual, but great memories nonetheless. :)

It's Been a Yucky Weekend

Yesterday we were supposed to go to the annual Rogers' family reunion. Last year we didn't make it because someone was sick and this year Harrison woke up hot as fire. Poor boy was running a temp of 102.7. He laid around all day (with the exception of a couple of rounds of vomiting!) and was just miserable.

But around 7:30 or so he started to perk up and today he was back to his old, mean self! :)

Special thanks to Pop for taking Ava to the reunion and for bringing us some yummy fish. It made my day more bearable!

Ava just amazes me with her reading skills. :) Here is a video of her reading. Not too exciting, but it is our life. :)

Playing in the Rain

Ava was so excited that we finally got a little rain that did not include thunder and lightning. She has been wanting to play in the rain for a while and this was finally her chance. Even though it was a light rain, there was plenty to make a mud puddle and enjoy it. It's the little things....

It was all fun and games until someone got mud in the face. ;)

Thanks to you all

Thanks to all of you for the thoughts, prayers, and beautiful flowers that you sent to my Nanny's funeral. It was such a blessing knowing that I have the support of such a loving family. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.

Captain Eyebrows Strikes Again

Ava's First Day of School - August 1, 2012

Q- How was your first day of school?

A - A good day.

Q - What did you learn on the first day of school?

A - How to get to three bathrooms.

Q - What did you do on your first day?

A - We went outside to look at the new playground and we got to play on it for a little while too. We watched some TV on the screen and watched a funny show. It was about a lady making food and it was funny.

Q - What was your favorite thing about the first day of school?

A - I'm thinking...the new lunchroom. It has an elevator and two staircases. The elevator was for people in wheelchairs and people who can't walk.

Q - What do you think of your new teacher?

A - She's good.

Q - How is first grade going to be different from kindergarten?

A - You have to do less work so far and I want to do more work like in Kindergarten.

Q - Did you miss anybody when you were at school?

A - I didn't miss a lot of people because some people from kindergarten came. I did miss my other Kindergarten friends.

Q - What are you most excited about in first grade?

A - Going outside and watching the funny banana song.

Remembering Nanny

This past Sunday my grandmother lost her battle with lymphoma. We discovered in December that her cancer had returned and she was not going to attempt treatment for this second go round. She wanted one last spring at home and God blessed her with one of the most beautiful springs that I can remember! Several times over the last few months we have thought the end was getting close, but last Thursday was the real beginning of the end. I was lucky to get to see her during the last few days and talk with her and her last words to me were "I love you."

For 32 years I have called this woman my Nanny and she was my Nan. I was the first grandchild and Nanny was always there for me. Even though in recent years her personality has changed and she was no longer the same Nan, she always had a laugh for me. So as we celebrate Nanny's life in the coming days, I want to remember the woman who always supplied me with frozen pizza and gallons of ice cream, gave me hideous haircuts, warned me not to run too hard on the carpet because Poppy was watching, and taught me to love flowers. Her creek holds so many memories for my childhood friends and me. I spent so much time there that it was my second home. And even though I didn't visit as often as I should in the past years, she always greeted me liked no time had passed at all.

I love you, Nan! :) And cancer SUCKS!

Life Legacy

Etta McCormick Weaver, 74, of Princeton, KY died Sunday,
August 19, 2012 at her home following a long illness. She was retired from
Princeton Health Care as a certified medical technician and a member of Cedar
Bluff Baptist Church.

Weaver is survived by three daughters, April
Freeman & husband Kenneth, Princeton, KY; Tracy Frazier & husband Randy,
Dunnellon, FL; Bobbi Jo Dircks & husband Mike,Hazelton, IN; five
grandchildren, Tiffany Freeman Rogers, Nick Freeman, Steven Frazier, Andrew
Frazier, and Kerri Beth Frazier; four great-grandchildren, one brother, James
McCormick, Evansville, IN; and one sister, Christine Young, Princeton, KY.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Weaver, and parents,
Harvey and Lilly Dossett McCormick. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Morgan's Funeral Home with Bro. Mark
Faughn officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Church Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
