3rd Grade

So, 3rd grade is off to a rocky start. Ava is just not a fan right now. It seems that every day she comes home and feels she has been slighted. First, it was the shorter recess, and now it seems daily there is some catastrophe. She is not allowed to use her "pretty pencils," but has to use the class set of yellow pencils. I agree, that sucks. Who wants to touch pencils that every other disgusting hand has touched. Blech!

Today, she was upset because she didn't get to work on her book. After finishing the Spiderwick Chronicles series last night, she wanted to write a sequel. She wanted to work on Chapter 3 at school today, but after finishing her work, her teacher would not let her get her composition book out and write. She was so mad. Let's face it, Ava finished her work quickly. She is very smart and she catches on quickly. Sure, sometimes she rushes, but not to let her write? What is the harm of her getting out her notebook and writing? She was able to get a book out to read....so why not write?

I'm trying to be positive, other than the pencil deal, but I am so afraid that she will start to dislike school again. I'm crossing my fingers that things get better.

Walking into school on the first day.

Her new classroom

This school year's theme is about being Wild for Learning. She got these from her teacher.

Excited about her new backpack.

First assignment - "Make a me bag"  Ava had to fill a bag with items that represent her. She chose a couple of pictures, a magnet from Disney World, an apron and scissors for her love of crafting, and some gemstones  from Discovery Park.

First Day of School 2014-2015

School started back here on July 30th. Ava is in the 3rd grade and Harrison is in his last year of preschool. Ava was all smiles for her Back to School pictures, but as you can see, Harrison was having none of it.

I have prayed that both of them would have great school years and enjoy learning.

PreK "Graduation"

I say "Graduation" in parentheses because Harrison still has one year of preschool left before he goes to Kindergarten, so he will stay with Mrs. Jeannie for one more year. It is a wonderful program and I feel so at ease to have him there.

In May, Mrs. Jeannie recognizes all of her students, but it is a graduation for those who are moving on to Kindergarten. Last year Harrison was sick and we weren't able to attend. This year, we got to enjoy all of the songs and food. :)

And if I do say so myself, the cutest "graduate" ever!

Going up to get his diploma

Hey guys, I have a diploma!

Or a telescope! :)

The Last Full Day of 2nd Grade - AKA Field Day

I was very lucky to be able to attend Ava's Field Day again this year. I love getting the chance to go and see her participate with her classmates. It also gives me an idea of the dynamic of what her class has been like for the year. In a word, this class was LOUD. Lots of different, overbearing personalities that came together. It was a fun group, but rowdy. Bless Mrs. Mallory's heart. :) Ava has loved her and learned so much this year. We continue to be blessed with teachers that are challenging, yet understanding of a child who gets bored very easily.

So this last full day of 2nd grade was full of fun, sunshine, and water. Ava had a blast and this year was the first year she didn't want to leave with me, but rather stay and watch movies with her classmates. She's growing up on me... {tear}.

Before school

Checking out the petting zoo

You know it was all over for this group of 2nd graders when the donkeys started pooping. The crazed laughter was crazy, especially from the boys.

My brown eyed girl

The giant slip and slide soaked the ground and these worms (seriously, feet long!) were crawling out everywhere. Harrison would have been in HEAVEN!

So, a wonderful ending to a fantastic year at NGS!
