5 on Friday

Since I didn't get a chance to do 10 on Tuesday this week, I thought I would throw out a couple of things to make a 5 on Friday. Sounds good right?

  1. I have done a little bit of moving around here on the blog. I moved a couple of items from the bottom into the sidebar. I also added a little intro about each of us. Check them out on the right side. In the next few days I am planning on having a new blog header up.

  2. We have been out of school since Monday. So I only worked one day this week, but being with Ava is like being at work! We have had a lot of fun and I have been doing a lot of scrapbooking and working on finishing up loose ends on things I had started and needed to get done.

3. On weekends Ava takes naps in her room and we really have to get onto her to stay in bed. A few weeks ago I had laid down to take a nap and Bradley was outside picking up pecans. I had heard Ava talking to herself a little bit, but I fell asleep anyway. During the hour I was asleep, obviously no one else in our slept. When I woke up I found this in Ava's room. Every item was taken from drawers and cabinets, and every book was on the ground. She said it was a bridge. Bradley said it looked like a map on Dora. "Door, bridge, Clothes Island." (For those of you non-Dora people, they use a map on every episode that gives three locations you need to get through.)

4. The other night Ava put this blanket around Bradley and made him play Beauty Shop. She painted his nails and then checked his teeth. (I think she was blending beauty and dentistry.)

5. In keeping with the bridge and books theme, here is Ava laying out her books so she can play "Scos-Scotch" (that's Ava-nese for Hopscotch).

Okay, and as a number 6, added reminder, please keep our families in the north in your thoughts and prayers. My parents and grandparents continue to be without power and water and will continue to be for several days. Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers. Because of this I will be keeping the comments open for several more days to allow them to see the pictures of Ava when they finally thaw out! So keep commenting!

Comments for 500th post

I am not sure why the comments are not working for the 500th post. I had fixed it and now they are gone. You can post your comments here.

Thanks!

Happy 500th Post!

So, here it is, our 500th blog post from the Rogers House Life! I can't believe it has been almost 3 years since we started our blog to document my pregnancy with Ava and to keep in touch with family and friends!

So in honor of our blog milestone and because it was really overdue, I did a photo shoot with Ava. I was so amazed that she was really into it and seemed to have fun with it. I can't believe how much she has changed since she was born and what a little girl she has become.

So, here is a slide show of Ava's new portraits. I think it lasts about 2 minutes. Enjoy!

To all our family members and friends who read this blog. Thanks so much! Here is what I am doing for you:

  • Post a comment and tell me something you would like to see on the blog. Maybe its a special picture taken of Ava or something you want to see her doing.
  • If you are a family member who normally gets a picture of Ava at Christmas (5x7's aunts and uncles and 8 x 10's parents) please let me know which picture you like best and we will get that printed for you. I know you are overdue.
  • From the comments, Ava will pick one name and that person will get something special!

To make a comment, simply click on the comments button and type something in. You don't have to be registered. You can use anonymous and then just type your name.

*I will be drawing on Friday night for the special prize!*

Post 499 - Trayton and Gabriel's Birthday

Yesterday we went to KY for the afternoon to celebrate Trayton's 2nd and Gabriel's 1st Birthdays. Ava was jazzed about going a little day trip, but she was a little confused because she thought we were going to Chuck E. Cheese's. In fact, all night Friday and all day Saturday she would say, "Where'm I going? Chuck E. Cheese's?" And I would say, "No, baby, we are going to Kentucky." Sometimes she would then say, "I'm going to Kentucky Cheese's!" Such a disappointment for her...

Anyway, on the way to Ky we were almost little ice cubes because we have no heat in our Jeep (or I guess we should say very limited heat) and we refuse to get it fixed since we are hoping to get a new vehicle this year. So our trip was short because we wanted to travel during the day so the sun would give us some warmth. Once we arrived we all got a new pair of tennis shoes in preparation of our vacation in a couple of months, grabbed a bite to eat, and visited with Mammaw.

Then it was party time! Of course as soon as we arrived Ava made a beeline for the birthday cake. She has radar that senses where cake is and that was her main concern. That and she wanted some presents. Right before present opening time, Bo pulled me aside and said she thought there would be a fight over her gift. She and Mike had gotten Trayton a Handy Manny toolbox and she knows how much Ava likes Handy Manny. I knew she was right and a storm would be coming! Ava wanted to help open presents and Trayton didn't want help so right of the bat we had a little bit of tempers flaring. However, it was nothing compared to the fit over the Handy Manny toolbox. Ava was so excited to see it and while I don't think Trayton really knew who the character was, Ava did. "It's Handy Manny!" she yelled and she wanted to play. Trayton didn't want to share and Ava took that very personally. There was a lot of screaming and crying, and grabbing and snatching. But no loss of limbs or injuries.

After the party we made a quick stop at my Mom's to see my Nanny and then we headed home to warmth. Here are some of the pictures I took and I will give a little narrative caption for them so you get the full effect.

Also, in the next couple of days the 500th post will be up and I am very excited about it!

Ava - "I want some cake!"

"Please hurry so I can have some cake..."

The only reason Trayton put this crown on is because we told him he couldn't have cake until he did.

Ava - "This is boring...is it time for cake?"

This marks the moment right after the "Handy Manny Hijinks" started.
